More From Mexico

Canon 60D - 70-200mm 2.8L @ 130mm f/2.8 1/3200s
This is a shot of a boat that was tied up on a pier in Costa Maya, Mexico.  I loved the white color of the boat in contrast to the deep blues of the sky and water, and the completely empty background of the image.  It made the boat really "pop" or as my friends from the east coast would say, "soda".   Just kidding :)

I hope to be able to go out this weekend to do more shooting, the weather is beautiful today.

Back from Vacation

Canon 60D - 70-200mm f2.8L @ 200mm 1/4000 and f/2.8
Just returned from vacation this week, and took a ton of shots with the new 70-200mm L series lens.  This is one of my favorites from the trip.  I love how all of the birds came out sharp with t blue background and it almost looks like they posing.   I had this one printed in a large format to hang in my house.   I was very flattered when the guy at the camera shop complimented me.

This was shot was taken in Costa Maya, Mexico.   You'll probably be seeing a lot more from this set.  There were tons of great photos on our trip.

Muir Woods

Taken during a recent trip out to San Francisco for my cousin Jason's wedding. An unique view of the redwoods at Muir Woods.

Weekend Photo Shoots

Canon 60D - 70-200mm f2.8 at 185mm f2.8 1/250
This past weekend, a co-worker asked me to photograph her cats.  The cats are getting older, and she wanted to have nice pictures to immortalize them.  We spent an hour with her and her "kids" and she told us to expect lower light conditions as there were large trees that blocked a lot of the light coming through the windows of her home.  I brought the flash just in case, but ended up not needing to use it.  This is one of my favorite shots that I took during the session.

Roaaaar!  :)

U.S. Naval Observatory

I took a trip to the U.S. Naval Observatory, and it was pouring rain, so I decided not to take my nice camera.  I used my awful camera on my phone and took this shot.  Makes me wish I had the nice camera....
Motorola DroidX - Craptastic Cellphone Camera
This was taken at the top of one of the telescope domes at the observatory, looking down all the flights of stairs to the ground.  Rain can be such a jerk.

Atlantic City Girls Trip

I spent an awesome 2 nights in Atlantic City on a mother-daughter trip starring me and my mom, my 2 sister-in-laws (my husband's sister and my brother's wife) and each of their moms! We stayed at Harrah's with the amazing indoor pool and saw a Beatles cover band show: Beatlemania Now! I chose a few of my best shots from the trip. Enjoy and let me know what you think:
Canon Rebel XSi - 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 at 85mm f/5.6 1/100 ISO 1600
Canon Rebel XSi - 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 at 85mm f/5.6 1/40 ISO 1600

Here are a couple shots of the pool at Harrahs:
both with Canon Rebel XSi - 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 at 15mm f/5.6 ISO 1600 1/3200(L) 1/40000(R)
I forgot to change the ISO back to a normal level after the concert. Thus, these photos are unfortunately very grainy when zoomed in. What I learned: Return camera back to "normalish" settings after a shoot so it's at baseline when I begin a new shoot.

Sligo Creek Trail in the Fall

Canon 60D - 50mm f1.8 at f1.8 1/125 ISO 100
I don't have any particular reason for posting this photo this week.  You can probably tell it's a few months old, but I really like how the color of the leaf stands out from the darker background, and the 50mm lens gives nice bokeh in the background.  Looking back, 1.8 may have been a bit too shallow, but I am happy with the results.
